About the Dances
Smooth Dance Class Card
"Smooth" dances not only look how they sound, but they travel across the dance floor. Picture black and white film where couples are casually dancing around: they are most likely doing a smooth dance. This type of dancing can be extremely professional looking and travel around large ballrooms competitively, but socially, smooth dancing teaches you how to dance around your living room furniture, and maybe into the kitchen!
FOXTROT: flapper ladies from the Great Gatsby, Dean Martin-esque gentlemen tipping their fedora at you.
WALTZ: Prince Charming twirling a sparkling gowned Cinderella across the dance floor, romantic, swaying.
TANGO: playfully chase your partner in this cat-and-mouse game, danced to classical and modern music.
Rhythm Dance Class Card
Rhythm dances have steps taken close together, so you can learn to move your hips. I am an expert in educating those who say "I have no hips" or "I have no rhythm." Originating from Latin/Afro-Cuban influences, American Rhythm is the focus of my teaching, and my specialty in performance! If you are looking to move more comfortably and get rid of your signature fist pump and rocking side to side, this pass is for you.
RUMBA: the dance you will do instead of "the high school huddle," OK to do with your mom AND girlfriend ;)
CHACHA/SALSA: moderate to fast-paced rhythms, party dances done to most music on modern radio.
EAST COAST SWING: tricks & poodle skirts, the kind of lindy hop/swag/rag time danced to big band melodies.
Alternative Dance Class Card
If you like traditionally Latin/club/rock music, this is a great way to diversify your movement by learning how to add a partner to your favorite type of dance music. These dances can be performed at a high level, but are taught with a social intention. They are rhythm dances by nature, and can be danced in small areas such as restaurants, dance clubs, on cruises, in back yards under the moon!
BACHATA/SALSA: club dances, good for small spaces, danced to modern/hip hop music at parties/weddings.
WEST COAST SWING: a slinkier, well-to-do version of east coast swing, great for dancing to rock music.
ARGENTINE TANGO: an informal, highly sensual partner dance, fabulous for practicing the lead/follow roles.
Mother Son Performance
Give your mom the untouchable memory of dancing with her at your wedding! For all the time she has invested in you, take one minute of your life to show her how much you care and appreciate her. This is such a particularly unique way to showcase the mother of the groom and make her feel valued on this special occasion. At my wedding, there was not a dry eye in sight on our special day once Andrew twirled his mother around the dance floor. Too often the mother-son relationship is not expressed: a dance together is the perfect way to show you care. There weren't enough tissues in the venue to keep up with people's emotional response. Please come prepared with song options and I can advise, if need be. [Popular choice: Rumba]
Daddy Daughter Dance
This is a classic, tugging on the heart strings performance that many little girls dream of (or dread!) their whole lives. Most women have never actually danced with their fathers until they decided to in front of all their friends and family on their wedding day. My daddy and I danced to Perry Como's "Turn Around," a song about each time a young girl turns she gets older, eventually learning how to make new space in her life for a new man, "letting go" of her daddy dearest. We cried the entire time! Nothing prepared us like learning to dance together. I wouldn't trade our mini-performance for the world. Please come prepared with song options and I can advise, if need be. [Popular choice: Waltz]
